Bilas: Living Culture
About the project
The 'Bilas: Body Adornment from Papua New Guinea' exhibition immerses visitors in the enchanting world of Papua New Guinea's body adornment traditions. Highlighted by the stunning photography of Wylda Bayrón and complemented by treasured artifacts from the Australian Museum's Pacific cultural collections, this showcase brings to life the ancient art form of Bilas. This artistry mirrors the profound relationship the local people share with their land and fellow living beings.
Our role in this visual journey involved close collaboration with exhibition designers. We crafted 3D letters from frosted acrylic, precision laser-cut and given a satin 2k paint finish tailored to specific Pantone shades. We further enhanced the exhibit's visual narrative by painting expansive graphics onto the museum walls and printing vibrant voile banners. Sampling the diverse versions of letters presented a challenge, but with thorough testing and multiple samples, we developed a unique and quality outcome. Our combined efforts culminated in a cohesive and engaging exhibition, appreciated for the attention to detail and successful collaboration with the design team.
